Grass Roots Football in
Perranporth
Youngsters in Perranporth are supported by the major primary
schools in the area at Perranporth,
Goonhavern,
St Agnes and further afield at Cubert,
Newquay,
Summercourt,
and Truro who all take an active role in promoting junior
football development with local school league and cup competitions.
Equally well supported are the secondary schools within the
catchment area for Perranporth young aspiring footballers
of Richard
Lander in Truro and Tretherras
in Newquay, which is attached to Newquay Sports Centre and
has an all weather football pitch under floodlights.
There are many FA approved local youth teams which play at
weekends in Cornwall leagues:

Football heaven in Cornwall
With a growing population and mild winters, Cornwall is fast
becoming a footballing Mecca. David Beckham was spotted having
a quiet drink in a Newquay pub last summer after filming a
football boot ad on a Scily Isles beach. Truro City won the
FA Vase at the new Wembley in 2007, Newquay ladies are enjoying
national sucess and football has finally taken a strong hold
in what is traditionally a Rugby region.
Football Development and Coaching
Investment in Cornwall football development has been good
in recent years and has contributed to the current success
of 'local' professional clubs such as Plymouth Argyle, Exeter
CIty and Torquay United. The untapped wealth of young talent
in the region has not escaped the notice of the big boys as
well.
Arsenal FC were the first to realise this and have invested
very heavily across Cornwall in recent years with the football
in the community development inititive led by the Arsenal
Soccer Schools. This involves working with the Schools
and children in the region both during school time with PPA
and running after school clubs at both primary and senior
levels. Arsenal have also taken advantage of the environment
to run holiday courses closeby, throughout all the school
holiday periods which are open to both Perranporth residents
and visitors alike.
